This distillery by the banks of the river Lossie is every bit the idyll of a country distillery, with its woodlands and resident population of Swans. Legend has it that longtime manager Roderick Mackenzie thought the environment so important to the taste of Linkwood, he forbade the removal of spiders’ webs from the rafters in case the character were to change. Great care is still taken to maintain its high standards, though the cobwebs have been removed.

A whole garden of fruit and flower scents in a smooth, long, complex yet wholly integrated Speyside of utter distinction. This 12 year old single malt whisky has a rich and oily mouthfeel with nutty, cereal notes and an aromatic and dry finish.

Serving Suggestion:
Linkwood works best served in a traditional whisky glass, neat or with a little water.

Region A distinguished Speyside malt.
Appearance Old gold.
Body Mouth-filling, smooth and medium bodied.
Nose Fresh soft-fruits with a hint of vanilla, then light cigar-box notes are perceptible, and a faint hint of expensive ladies' perfume.
Palate Sweet, overall. Viscous, but fresh and clean: a pleasant acidity helps to maintain this.
Finish Cedar notes emerge in the finish, which is long.

Expert Reviews

Insights from some of the best in the business

Floral, grassy and fragrant on the nutty nose, while the slightly oily palate becomes increasingly sweet, ending up at marzipan and almonds. The relatively lengthy finish is quite dry and citric.

Gavin D Smith, Malt Whisky Yearbook 2015, p.152

A classic example of a relatively light and fragrant whisky that has real complexity and a gorgeous feel. The perfect summertime dram.

Dave Broom 2002, Whisky Magazine, Issue 27

Linkwood always evokes thoughts of sweetmeats. This one seems a particularly sweet interpetation.

Michael Jackson 2002, Whisky Magazine, Issue 22

Sweet and squidgy with over-ripe melon and soft pear on the nose, and a delightful palate of marzipan, vanilla, green apples and a touch of spice. The finish is balanced, pleasant and very enticing.

Dominic Roskrow, Malt Whisky Yearbook 2015, p.152

Sublime malt: one of the most glittering gems in the Diageo crown. 94.5 points

Jim Murray 2013 Whisky Bible, p.170
