Talisker is the oldest Single Malt Scotch Whisky distillery made by the sea on the shores of the Isle of Skye, one of the most remote, rugged, yet beautiful landscapes in Scotland. Few whiskies tell the story of their origin better than Talisker. Its smell and taste instantly connect the drinker with the rugged environment – like a warm welcome from a wild sea. It’s a powerhouse; challenging but adored; once discovered rarely left.

Produced at the oldest distillery on the Isle of Skye, Talisker Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been made by the sea since 1830, with its smell and taste instantly connecting you to its rugged maritime home. Every sip is a taste of the Isle of Skye itself, one of the most remote, windswept yet beautiful landscapes in Scotland. Talisker 10 Year Old, the stalwart of the Talisker family, is a powerful single malt whisky, with a sea-salty nose, spicy complexity, smoky sweet character and signature peppery finish: like a warm welcome from a wild sea. This single malt has a famously rich and powerful peat-smoke flavour, while the finish leaves you with a warm peppery taste at the back of the mouth. It is double distilled to create a rich, deep character embodying the maritime characteristics of a coastal whisky, and then aged for a minimum of 10 years in American oak casks. It is one of the most awarded single malt Scotch whiskies in the world including Double Gold medal winner at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for four years in a row, including 2020. Talisker 10 Year Old makes a perfect present for adventurers who share the wild spirit of our founders, who rowed to the Isle of Skye in 1830 where Talisker has been distilled ever since.

Serving Suggestion:
The warm, subtle smokiness of Talisker 10 Year Old should be sampled neat.

Expert Reviews

Insights from some of the best in the business

A malt equivalent to The Rolling Stones Satisfaction: it's exciting and fulfilling no mater how many times you come to it, on one level it's mainstream, if slightly on the heavier and rockier side of the taste spectrum; on another there's an edgier and less safe edge to it. A rich body is decorated with pepper and peat.

Sukhinder Singh 2011, Whisky Magazine, Issue 95, p.102

Quite dense and smoky on the nose, with smoked fish, bladderwrack, sweet fruit and peat. Full-bodied and peaty in the mouthy; complex, with ginger, ozone, dark chocolate, black pepper and a kick of chilli in the long, smoky tail.

Gavin D Smith, Malt Whisky Yearbook 2015, p.175

Fresh, vibrant. Appetizingly briny, with notes of seaweed, fishnets, lemongrass, smoke, and damp peat. A bed of light toffee provides contrast and balance. It finishes with a knockout punch: powerfully peppery and salty. This whisky remains a beautifully dynamic and bold whisky.

John Hansell, Whisky Advocate Fall 2005

Another that should need no introduction. The thing to look for in Talisker, as with all smoky whiskies, is sweetness that gives the requisite balance to the drying effect of smoke. Underneath Talisker’s smoke, which ain't as all-pervading as Lagavulin, is a sweet pear-like quality. When young there are notes of the land: heather, moor, sweet seaweed, and a finish that has a distinctive cracked black pepper hit.

Dave Broom, Whisky Advocate Summer 2012
