A natural cask strength Single Malt Whisky from the closed Convalmore Distillery at Dufftown, Speyside. From refill American Oak hogsheads filled in 1984, it's a rare and unusual old whisky. Subtle in style, yet possessing hidden depths and showing considerable balance and poise, this characterful spirit makes a luxurious apéritif.
Appearance 18CT gold. Good legs and very viscous.
Body Light to medium. Smooth textured.
Nose A mellow base aroma, soft and sweet, lightly dusted with nutmeg and a hint of oak shavings. A fruity sensation gently appears before an intense brown sugar sweetness builds. Then the spicy notes continue to develop with an underlying green herbiness.
Palate Smooth, sweet and fruity, with a trace of crisp acidity and oak spice to balance the sweetness. The freshly baked apple pie on the nose persists with a now caramelised and bitter-sweet flavour.
Finish Warm and spicy with liquorice that gradually fades to freshly sliced apples and a warming oak.
