Port Ellen: Untold Stories - The Spirit Safe is the first release in the new Untold Stories series from the Islay distillery, which closed in 1983. Matured in a selection of ex-bourbon and refill European oak sherry casks, this 39-year-old single malt has a fruity, smoky character, with notes of sultanas, melons and limes, with just a hint of ginger. A gentle peat smoke builds in the background alongside a savoury, sea-salt element.

Only 1500 bottles of this highly sought after and collectable Islay malt were made available globally. The bottle is beautifully presented in a wooden display case with a bespoke double key opening mechanism, mimicking the distillery’s spirit safe which can only be opened by using two different keys simultaneously.

Region Islay.
Nose Delicate on the nose with restrained aromas of soft sweet peat, a slight salinity and subtle tropical fruits of pineapple and melon.
Palate Smooth, gentle and sweet, with ginger nut, sultanas, slight sherried nuances and more tropical yellow fruits such as melon and passionfruit.
Finish Textured with sweetness giving way to a saline and smokey ending.
